Press release on BASt approval
FRIKE rumble strip approved in Germany
The position-stable rumble strip from FRIKE electronic AG has been officially approved for use on German roads by the Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport (BMDV) and has been tested by the Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt). The approval is a further step towards increasing traffic and work safety for road users and for road maintenance staff at short-duration work sites (AkD).
Now that the position-stable FRIKE rumble strip has been successfully in use in Switzerland for almost ten years and more than 50,000 rumble strips are used worldwide every day to improve safety, an important milestone in terms of accident prevention has now been reached with market approval in Germany. The innovative rumble strip from Swiss traffic technology specialist FRIKE electronic AG, based in Hüntwangen, is characterized in particular by its unique grip. Compared to conventional rumble strips, the FRIKE rumble strip does not shift when a vehicle crosses it due to its geometry, material and weight - especially in wet and cold conditions - and thus prevents the risk of a new source of danger from the same.

Significantly reduce rear-end collisions
In general, the position-stable rumble strip makes a significant contribution to reducing rear-end collisions. Inattentive road users are warned by the haptic advance warning signal with a vibration and made aware of the impending lane closure. According to the Construction Department of the Canton of Zurich, the introduction of the position-stable rumble strip on Swiss freeways has led to a reduction in rear-end collisions of more than 90% on mobile barriers or today's impact absorbers.
Create safety
FRIKE electronic AG also offers the so-called FRIKE rumble strip handling machine to eliminate the risk to employees of highway and road maintenance depots when deploying and collecting the position-stable rumble strips in flowing traffic. This can be mounted on the mounting plate of a truck (from 7.5t). At the push of a button, it picks up or puts down the rumble strips while driving forward. This automation is another important piece of the puzzle for increasing work, traffic and operational safety in Germany.
